* The new startup screen is designed for monitors using a resolution of something like 1024 by 768 pixels (which is now most monitors). This is becoming the de facto screen resolution for modern monitors and about 974 px is becoming the norm for most widely used websites. This arrangement better suits laptops and widescreens but will still completely fill a 3 x 2 (traditional) screen. Our videos are still produced at this proportion to match whiteboard projectors. Remember, if it doesn't match your screen you can always change your screen resolution.
* Many people have asked for faster navigation. In addition to the Quicklinks, the black area around the main screens is now made of active (invisible) links. Watch for the cursor change to hand and the tool tip appear as you venture out into the black and use left and right areas to go instantly to Multimedia Professional Zone Home, bottom to go to Quicklinks and top to go the Start Screen, from any screen anywhere on the site except popup screens. Think of it as like the navigation wheel on an iPod classic or other mp3 player. Cool.
* For the convenience of some users and their firewalls, we are introducing the option of using Adobe Flash as well as divX to watch the videos. Flash is, of course, on nearly all computers and does not require an additional plugin provided you have Flashplayer version 10. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE VERSION 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have already started to roll out this option with Geography and History and then we shall be moving on to the videos of other subjects. It is quite a major option so will be extended progressively over the forthcoming months.
*When it comes to your subscription, you probably know you can make use of the Harnessing Technology Grant if you opt for a period of subscription over 12 months. We have an extended subscriptions for this purpose (and a at discounted price), so if you want to know more just e-mail Jeannie jeannie@atlanticeurope.com
*Text reads are changing. The main text blocks will be read out whenever you put your mouse over the text. Reading will stop when you take your mouse away and resume where it left off when you put your mouse over again. The colour of the text will change to show it is being read. The red and green buttons will disappear as screens are updated.
Curriculum Visions is now available to put on school servers and VLPs
When we started CurriculumVisions.com we envisaged only teachers using our material in conjunction with whiteboards and our books. But things have moved on. Schools regularly ask how they can speed up their connection when they have over a hundred children on separate computers all wanting to look at videos at the same time. Further, more and more schools want to incorporate CurriculumVisions as part of their virtual learning platforms (VLPs or VLEs) and make materials available through school servers to students at home.
Access speed is not due to our server, but rather the bandwidth of the portal coming into your school. So the best way to improve speed for multiple users is have the web site on your school server. Enter CurriculumVisions Express.
We can now send you a special hard drive version of the CurriculumVisions.com website to put on your own server and also to connect to your virtual learning platform if and when you install one. As a further benefit, children will also be able to access the site at home through your portal and their own profile logins.
Of course, with the videos physically on your server (as opposed to being cached by divX) all the videos are instantly available, even the first time, and you can play them all at the higher quality.
Firewall problems also disappear when you have the Express version on your own server.
Express is an add-on for schools with paid subscriptions. If you do not currently have a paid subscription, you may like to consider converting to paid (perhaps using the deals described below) Subscriptions include versions that qualify for Harnessing Technology grants.
So now you have a real choice. You can stay as you are with access online, either by buying a subscription or buying books. Or you can have your own server-based Express version to remove any delays and firewall problems as described above. For further information, just ask us (interactiveaccounts@curriculumvisions.com)

Students may take a topic such as Ancient Greeks and investigate it by choosing projects. All of the material they need for the projects is either simple equipment provided by you or resources provided by the website and our books.

There are currently SEVERAL HUNDRED PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES loaded with many more to follow. (Answers and guidance are available for separate purchase through the Curriculum Visions Teacher's Guides)
